In Senegal, the former ruling party, the Alliance for the Republic (APR), has fiercely criticized Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s economic recovery plan.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, APR officials described the strategy as a misstep that could push the country toward “total impoverishment.” The party claims the plan lacks clarity and fails to address urgent socio-economic needs.

The criticism adds to growing political tension as Sonko’s government pushes forward with bold reforms aimed at tackling inflation, youth unemployment, and national debt.

Sonko’s allies, however, maintain that the plan is necessary to rebuild Senegal’s economy on fairer and more resilient foundations.
