The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed the country’s first death from Mpox, alongside 23 new cases, bringing the total infections to 257 as of July 22, 2025.
This marks the largest weekly spike in cases and a turning point for the outbreak, which had previously seen no fatalities. The virus is spreading primarily through close physical contact.
Mpox presents with fever, body aches, and rashes, and poses higher risks for children, pregnant women, and the immunocompromised.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid contact with symptomatic individuals, maintain hygiene, and report cases early to help curb the spread.
