In Guinea, the African Union (AU) mission currently visiting the country held meetings with political actors over the weekend in the capital, Conakry. The engagement forms part of broader efforts to support Guinea’s transition to constitutional order ahead of the September 21 referendum.
The AU delegation sought to listen to stakeholders’ concerns and gather suggestions on the way forward. This mission follows earlier assessments of the country’s political and logistical preparedness for the vote.
While some political parties welcomed the dialogue and praised the AU’s commitment to democratic transition, others chose to boycott the meeting, citing lack of trust in the process.
The AU has not publicly commented on the boycott but emphasized that its doors remain open for inclusive dialogue.
