The European Union has welcomed the release of political detainees in Niger while renewing its demand for the immediate release of ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

In a statement, the EU expressed readiness to engage in dialogue with Nigerien authorities, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and a return to democratic norms.

The bloc maintains that Bazoum’s continued detention remains a key obstacle to restoring constitutional order in the country.
