Côte d’Ivoire and Benin intend to strengthen their military cooperation to address rising cross-border threats. Terrorism, maritime piracy, and uncontrolled migratory flows are increasingly worrying the authorities of both countries.
With this in mind, a meeting between the chiefs of staff of the Ivorian, Beninese, and French armies was held in Abidjan. It marks the launch of an operational military partnership, with technical support from France.
The stated objective: to lay the foundations for enhanced cooperation to better secure the Gulf of Guinea, a strategic region facing multiple security challenges.
A joint action plan is currently being developed. It includes the exchange of tactical and strategic expertise, the sharing of intelligence, operational feedback, and the organization of cross-training and joint military maneuvers.
