Journalist Comlan Sossoukpè is set to appear in court on Monday in Benin, following his controversial arrest and extradition from Côte d’Ivoire last week.

Known for his criticism of the government, Sossoukpè was detained based on an international warrant issued by Benin’s Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET).

He is currently in pre-trial detention at Ouidah prison, with press freedom advocates closely watching the case.

The extradition has sparked concerns over political persecution and the shrinking space for dissent in Benin.
