A regional webinar on Tuesday brought together civil society leaders to tackle the growing democratic crisis in West Africa and the Sahel.
The virtual forum, themed “The Crisis of Democracy in West Africa and the Sahel”, examined the resurgence of military coups and governance challenges. It was organised by CLEEN Foundation, the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, and other advocacy groups.
Participants, including The Edward Francis Small Centre for Rights and Justice in The Gambia, called for solution-oriented strategies to restore constitutional rule, especially in countries like Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.
Dr. Salaudeen Hashim of CLEEN Foundation stressed the urgency of restoring democratic norms, warning that continued instability could further erode public trust in governance across the region.
