In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, Niger’s National Guard has confirmed the neutralization of Loukoumane, a high-profile terrorist leader, during a weekend operation in Torodi, in the conflict-hit Tillabéry region.
Loukoumane had been on the run for over three years and was notorious for orchestrating deadly attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along key border routes near Burkina Faso.
Authorities say he was also responsible for multiple ambushes on civilians and security forces, as well as cattle theft across the region.
Recovered from the scene were critical materials including AK-47 magazines, detonator wires, a relay device, and a mobile phone — suggesting plans for further attacks.
