Guinea’s largest opposition party, the UFDG, is in crisis as a leadership standoff deepens just days before its planned national congress.

The Ministry of Territorial Administration has ordered a postponement of the July 6, 2025 event, demanding the reinstatement of Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, a government spokesperson expelled from the party in 2022.

Party leader Cellou Dalein Diallo has rejected the directive, accusing authorities of interference in internal party affairs.

The standoff raises fresh concerns about political stability and democratic space under Guinea’s transitional government.
