Togo’s opposition parties are raising alarms over what they describe as troubling irregularities in the run-up to the July 17 municipal elections.

At the center of the controversy is the Tône 1 district in the north, where several ruling UNIR party candidates are accused of flouting eligibility requirements outlined in the electoral code.

The opposition is demanding transparency and strict adherence to electoral rules, warning that continued disregard for due process could undermine the credibility of the vote. Plans are underway for a public demonstration to press their demands.
