Guinea’s leading civil society coalition, the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), has written an open letter to the newly elected ECOWAS Chair, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone.
The FNDC is calling on President Bio to intervene in what it describes as arbitrary kidnappings and forced disappearances of Guinean activists, specifically naming Mamadou Bilo Bah and Oumar Sylla, popularly known as “Foniké Mangué.”
In the letter sent Monday, the FNDC appealed for ECOWAS leadership in pressing Guinean authorities to ensure the safe release of the missing civil society figures. The group’s head, Alséyni Farinta Camara, emphasized that regional silence could embolden rights abuses.
