In Niger State, Nigeria, the devastating impact of recent floods continues to unfold, with over 700 people still unaccounted for in the Mokwa region. The disaster, triggered by three days of relentless rainfall in late May, has already claimed at least 207 lives and left hundreds of homes and businesses in ruins.

The Mokwa region, a vital trade link between Nigeria’s north and south, is now grappling with widespread displacement and loss. President Bola Tinubu has directed emergency agencies and security forces to ramp up search and rescue efforts, but state officials say many families are still searching for loved ones.

Governor Umaru Bago confirmed the alarming figures and called for urgent national and international support. As climate-related disasters intensify, communities like Mokwa face growing threats with limited means to recover.
