Ghana’s Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has unveiled a widespread payroll fraud scheme within the National Service Scheme (NSS), implicating top officials in a long-running operation that drained state funds using “ghost” names. Over 81,000 fictitious names were allegedly added to the NSS payroll, enabling the theft of significant public resources.
Dr. Ayine revealed that district directors, payroll officers, and even the NSS CEO were under investigation. He emphasized that prosecutions under the government’s anti-corruption campaign are not politically motivated, dismissing claims of bias. According to the AG, regular public briefings are aimed at promoting transparency in the justice system.
