Open Society Foundations (OSF) and West Africa Democracy Radio (WADR) joined voices with civil society and state actors to commemorate Africa Day 2025 with a strong push for reparative justice.

This year’s celebration emphasized the need to redress the harms of slavery, colonialism, and persistent inequalities across the continent.

Held annually on May 25, Africa Day marks the founding of the OAU, now the African Union, and celebrates unity and liberation.

The 2025 theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” sharpened focus on dignity, sovereignty, and historic redress.
