In Mali, civil society leader Aliou Badra Sacko has been released, two months after his mysterious abduction near the Ministry of Education in Bamako.
The Citizens Movement, which Sacko heads as interim president, announced his release in a statement, confirming he is safe and in good health. He had disappeared on March 14 after a meeting, taken by hooded individuals under unclear circumstances.
No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, but the public has pointed fingers at the state’s security services due to the nature of the arrest. The Malian transitional authorities have yet to respond to these allegations or provide clarification.
The incident comes amid a tense civic and political atmosphere in Mali, especially following the military government’s recent dissolution of all political parties.
