The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted synthetic drugs worth $4 million in one of the country’s largest drug busts to date.
Between May 19 and 22, operatives seized six million opioids and 332,000 bottles of codeine syrup from containers at Lagos’ Apapa Seaport and Rivers State’s Onne Seaport. The operation was driven by targeted intelligence and carried out by joint security agencies.
Several Nigerians and foreign nationals have been arrested in connection with the trafficking ring. NDLEA Chairman, General Mohamed Buba Marwa, praised the success of the operation, highlighting the importance of balancing enforcement with prevention in Nigeria’s ongoing war against drugs.
