Sierra Leone is facing a sharp rise in MPOX infections, accounting for 58.2% of all cases in Africa last week, according to the Africa CDC.

Director-General Jean Kaseya revealed 611 new cases were recorded, up from 483 the week before. The outbreak is concentrated in six districts around Freetown.

Males make up 68% of cases, with clade 2b identified as the driving strain. Despite good testing coverage, contact tracing remains weak.

Vaccination efforts are ongoing, with over 30,000 people immunized in the past two weeks.
