Côte d’Ivoire’s main opposition party, the PDCI, will hold an extraordinary congress on Wednesday, May 14, to elect a new president following Tidiane Thiam’s resignation.

Thiam stepped down just days after the party’s presidential candidate was removed from the provisional electoral list by court order, sparking internal tensions.

A call for applications has been launched, with interested candidates given until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday to file their nominations.

While dozens of supporters rallied near the party’s headquarters in support of Thiam, the PDCI insists the government must ensure inclusive and transparent elections in October.
