Senegalese judicial authorities have announced the arrest of several former senior officials accused of mismanaging COVID-19 funds. The arrests follow findings from the Court of Auditors’ report detailing financial irregularities during 2020–2021.
At a press conference in Dakar on Thursday, the Attorney General of the Republic and his counterpart from the Financial and Judicial Division confirmed that prosecutions have begun. The report implicates officials from the administration of former President Macky Sall.
The funds were meant to support pandemic-related health responses, economic recovery, and vulnerable communities. However, investigators allege widespread misuse, lack of documentation, and inflated contracts.
This move signals a renewed effort by Senegalese authorities to improve accountability and transparency in public fund management.
