Ghana intercepts GH₵20 million opioid shipment at Tema Port

Authorities at Tema Port have seized an opioid consignment worth GH₵20 million ($1.3 million) en route to Niger.

The shipment included Tapentadol, Loperamide, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate—drugs linked to severe health risks and addiction.

Customs officials and the Health Minister warn of Ghana becoming a transit hub for illicit opioids, urging stricter border controls.
