Mali’s Banks and Financial Institutions Association (SYNABEF) has halted guarantee transfers from Energie du Mali to public institutions.

The move follows the arrest of two ECOBANK employees accused of transmitting SWIFT messages related to financial guarantees.

In protest, the Malian banks’ union has announced a sit-in at all branches starting Monday to demand their release.

The suspension raises concerns over potential financial disruptions in the country’s energy sector.
