Mauritania’s government has dismissed allegations of mass migrant expulsions, calling them “greatly exaggerated.”

Government spokesperson Houssein Ould Meddou defended the country’s migration policies, citing long-standing agreements with Senegal and Mali.

He highlighted Mauritania’s high migrant population and efforts to ease cross-border movement, while noting concerns over low migrant regularization rates.
