In Mali, the transitional authorities have officially launched the DDR-1 program, which aims to disarm, demobilize, and reintegrate former combatants.
The initiative will see 3,000 ex-combatants from armed groups allied with the military integrated into the Malian armed forces. However, the program excludes former rebels from the Azawad Liberation Front, who are considered terrorists by the Malian government.
