Côte d’Ivoire’s government has dismissed former President Laurent Gbagbo’s recent remarks on the country’s rising debt, calling them misleading.

Gbagbo claimed the national debt surged from 6,000 billion FCFA in 2011 to 28,944.7 billion FCFA in 2024, raising concerns over fiscal management.

However, government spokesperson and RHDP Minister of State denied the allegations during the launch of the “2025 Ewan-Ado” movement in Yamoussoukro.

Officials maintain that the country’s borrowing is strategic and sustainable, aimed at infrastructure development and economic growth.
