Ghana’s President John Mahama has urged stronger security measures and enhanced fire service presence around major markets following a devastating fire that razed the Kantamanto Market, known for shoes and second-hand clothing.
During a meeting with market leaders and stakeholders, the president stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of such incidents and providing relief to affected traders. He also called on the Ghana National Fire Service to establish fire units near markets to prevent future disasters.
This call comes as part of the government’s broader efforts to safeguard livelihoods and protect economic hubs.
