Ghana’s 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic has officially been inaugurated, with Speaker Alban Bagbin sworn in for a historic second term. Members of Parliament who emerged victorious in the December 7, 2024, elections also took the oath of office during the ceremony.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) now commands a two-thirds majority in the House, forming the Majority, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumes the Minority with less than 100 seats. This marks a sharp departure from the 8th Parliament, which was a hung Parliament with both major parties holding 137 seats each, save for one independent member who aligned with the NPP.

Speaker Bagbin, now the first-ever to serve a second term as Head of the Legislature, emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity in his address after being re-elected.
