Ghana faces the risk of a government shutdown after the Minister of Finance, Dr. Amin Adam, failed to present the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation to Parliament as expected.
In response to the minister’s absence, the Speaker of Parliament adjourned the house until January 2, 2024, further delaying critical decisions needed to ensure government operations continue. This development has sparked concerns about the potential economic and administrative repercussions of a prolonged impasse.
Meanwhile, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson argued that Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang could present the 2025 budget on January 7, 2025, after being sworn in, should the outgoing Nana Addo administration fail to present the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation before leaving office.
