Ghana’s newly inaugurated joint transitional team has commenced work to ensure a smooth transfer of power to the newly elected president John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in accordance with the provisions of the presidential transition acts 2012, acts 845.
The country constitutionally went to the polls on December 7, of which former president John Mahama of the NDC decisively won by 56.55% against the ruling NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (41.61).
Though the process was generally peaceful, there were some pockets of violence and confrontation resulting in the death of one person and survival others injured.
Vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a display of statesmanship conceded defeat hours before the electoral commission declared the resulted to calm tensions and apprehensions.
