A district court in Päijät-Häme, Finland has ordered the detention of Simon Ekpa, a prominent Nigerian separatist leader, on charges of spreading terrorist propaganda via social media.
The decision comes after the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested Ekpa and four other individuals in connection with alleged terrorist-related activities. Ekpa, who resides in Finland, has been linked to promoting separatist actions and inciting violence in southeastern Nigeria.
Finnish authorities have emphasized their commitment to curbing the use of their territory for activities that may incite unrest or violate international laws. Ekpa’s detention is seen as a significant step in addressing the growing concern over the use of social media platforms for extremist propaganda.
