The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) has raised serious concerns over the state of democracy in West Africa, labeling its decline as an “existential threat” to the region. 

Speaking at the presentation of the “Environmental Assessment of Civic Space in West Africa 2023” report, Executive Director Nana Asantewa Afadzinu called for urgent action to reinforce democratic structures and improve civic freedoms.
