Illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in Ghana, is degrading the environment and significantly polluting the country’s key water bodies.

This issue has become a major topic of discussion this week after videos emerged showing how essential rivers such as the River Prah and Ankobrah, which serve as vital water sources for the country, have been polluted.

The once-clear waters now resemble chocolate drinks due to illegal mining activities.
