The preparatory meeting for the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification concluded yesterday in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire. The conference is scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 2 to 13, 2024.
Africa hopes to make its voice heard at this event and ensure that the continent’s concerns are considered in international decisions. To achieve this, the continent aims to consolidate a common position in the face of growing environmental challenges that threaten its populations.
