Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), has returned to the Labour House after being questioned by police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Ajaero was accompanied by human rights lawyer Femi Falana and others during his visit, which lasted several hours.

The police had invited Ajaero for questioning regarding an investigation into alleged terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.

The invitation sparked controversy, with the NLC and other labour unions accusing the government of attempting to intimidate labour leaders.

Before honouring the invitation, labour members gathered at the NLC headquarters in solidarity with their President. The NLC National Executive Council had earlier condemned the police action, describing the allegations against Ajaero as trumped-up and politically motivated.

Amnesty International Nigeria also condemned the police’s actions, calling it an attempt to intimidate the unionists.

Here’s Ajaero and his Counsel, Maxwell Opara, shortly after returning to the Labour House.
