Experts have attribeted the recent flooding across the Sahel to climate change and poor governance.
As a result of the latter, we have seen for instance the main routes in Niamey, Niger out of the city of about 1.5 million are mostly underwater, and about 11,500 of its inhabitants have been affected by the disaster.
Similarly, In Nigeria, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has issued a flood-warning alert to Kebbi State, over the rising water level of the River Niger system.
Floods in Chad’s northeastern province of Tibesti have claimed the lives of at least 54 people, authorities have said. The heavy rains are also causing devastation in neighbouring Niger and Sudan, with more rainfall expected across central Africa due to climate change.
