Recently, the brewing diplomatic row between Benin and Niger, is being heightened as Cotonou
authorities effected a blockade to prevent the vessels of Niger’s partners to load oil from Niamey.
On the flip side, Nigerien authorities equally are yet to open its borders despite the removal of sanctions by ECOWAS.
Let’s reminder you that the Sèmè Kpodji in Benin is very strategic for Niger as this is where its crude oil will be shipped from.
This blockade will remain in force until Niger reopens its border with Benin, says Cotonou.
Beninese International relations expert Morgan Assogba takes a look at the effects of this row on both economies, the subregion and its imminent escalation.
