At the request of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a commission to identify and compensate the victims and families affected by the deadly political demonstrations from January 2021 to February 2024 will soon be established.

Several people were killed or injured during protests following the arrest of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, who was then an opposition figure, and the postponement of the presidential election.

This decision by the new administration has been welcomed by the association  representing victims and the families affected by the deadly demonstrations of March 2021
