The Ga-Dangme people of the Greater Accra and Eastern Region have a rich and culturally significant tradition of naming their children, which reflects family lineage, birth order, and the circumstances of birth.

For instance, boys may be named Tettey or Adjetey for the firstborn while girls might be named Dedei or Ayeley for the firstborn.

This tradition is prominently showcased during the Kpojiemo, or naming ceremony, which takes place on the eighth day after a child’s birth.
