In this second part of the programme, we shift our attention to Benin Republic, a country once widely hailed as a beacon of democracy in West Africa, now confronting a markedly different political reality.
For the first time in its democratic history, Benin’s parliament is entirely devoid of an opposition, leaving the ruling parties with total control of the legislature.
This development raises profound questions about the health of democratic governance in the country. Parliament is meant to serve as a forum for debate, dissent, and oversight, where laws are scrutinised and government actions questioned.
