Tragedy struck in Ghana’s Oti Region as a passenger boat capsized on the Volta Lake near Kete Krachi, leaving 15 people dead — 11 of them children.
The accident occurred on Saturday, October 11, when the overloaded boat was returning from a funeral. According to the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), preliminary findings suggest the vessel exceeded its passenger limit.
A joint investigative team comprising maritime safety inspectors and Navy Task Force personnel from Dambai has been deployed to the scene to determine the cause and assess safety lapses.
Authorities have reiterated the need for stricter enforcement of safety protocols on the Volta Lake to prevent future tragedies.
