The Guinean government has successfully repatriated 148 citizens who were stranded in the Nigerien desert, marking another step in its efforts to safeguard nationals in distress abroad. The returnees arrived safely at Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport in Conakry-Gbéssia, where they were received by Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the group had earlier sent a distress appeal to President Mamadi Doumbouya, prompting a swift response through a government-led humanitarian airlift.
Visibly relieved, the returnees expressed gratitude to the Head of State and cautioned others against the dangers of irregular migration, which continues to endanger many young Africans seeking better opportunities abroad.
This repatriation follows a similar operation on October 9, when 147 Guineans were flown home from Niger, underscoring the government’s ongoing commitment to protecting its citizens wherever they may be.
