At the Sixth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union in Accra, Ghana, President Bola Tinubu provided an update on the status of ECOWAS, highlighting significant achievements and ongoing challenges.
Tinubu, the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, reported the activation of a Standby Force to combat terrorism and continued exploration of funding options.
Tinubu outlined the support ECOWAS has provided to member states to improve electoral and governance processes, including deploying Election Observation Missions to Senegal and Togo, which were praised for their peaceful and fair conduct.
He also noted the facilitation of a National Unity Agreement in Sierra Leone, with ongoing efforts to implement its provisions.
