President Macky Sall again reaffirmed his commitment to leave office at the end of his mandate on April 2.
The President stated this on his official Twitter handle. This is coming as he is set to receive the conclusive report of the national dialogue that concluded on Monday.
In a communique issued by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the statement also notes that the President intends to submit the matter to the Constitutional Council for the examination of the conclusions and recommendations arising from the national dialogue.
The government also said it would support the families of those who died during the violent demonstrations that occurred over the last three years.
Also after the dialogue, June 2 was chosen as the tentative date for the presidential election. This date seems not to go down well with the various CSOs, who want the election to be held before the end of President Macky Sall’s mandate on April 2.
