In Senegal, the Women’s Watch Platform for Peaceful Election, ETU JAMM, has expressed concerns over the tense political atmosphere in the country following a parliamentary election held on Sunday.
ETU JAMM which deployed over 60 election monitors across the country, observed that the exercise was largely peaceful, however, not without some minor hitches.
Addressing the media on Monday on their findings, ETU JAMM observed a low representation of women around 36 percent among members of the polling station, adding that general participation fell below 40 per.
Representative of the women group and founder of Femmes Africa Solidarité, a non-profit organization which promotes women's rights in Africa, Bineta Diop, attributed the low turnout to lack of voter education, especially at the grass root on political matters.
