The head of the World Health Organization has called for more investment in public and universal health as countries around the globe strive to tackle the spread of the corona virus.
The call was contained in Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus New Year’s message published on the World Health Organisation’s website on Wednesday.
Dr. Ghebreyesus said vaccines offer great hope to turn the tide of the pandemic as he urged wealthier countries to ensure that people at risk are immunized.
He said the global vaccine initiative, COVAX needs just over 4 billion US dollars urgently to buy vaccines for low- and lower-middle income countries.
