World Breastfeeding Week kicks off each year on the 1st of August and runs until the 7th.
This special event aims to highlight the huge benefits that breastfeeding can bring to both the health and welfare of babies. It also pushes for maternal health, focusing on good nutrition, poverty reduction and food security.
Of course, there are various demands on busy mothers, meaning that women who may want to breastfeed their babies do not always have the right support to stick to the plan.
Busy working schedules, alongside the many other challenges that modern women face, often make breastfeeding a not so accessible option to nursing moms.
Thus, this year’s theme … Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all, celebrates breastfeeding mums in all their diversity, throughout their breastfeeding journeys, while showcasing the ways families, societies, communities and health workers can have the back of every breastfeeding mum.
