The first part of the programme will focus on a high-level event which was on Thursday co-hosted in Paris by the Government of France, the African Union and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, along with the support of Team Europe.
The Summit launched the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA), an initiative that will provide financial incentives to help vaccine manufacturers in Africa scale up production and become sustainable on a long-term basis.
For the second part of the program, we will be talking about vitiligo, a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by the loss of skin pigmentation in patches or blotches, usually around the mouth, hair, and eyes.
It is estimated to affect between 0.004% and 2.28% of the global population.
Although it is unclear what actually causes vitiligo, it occurs when the immune system attacks the melanocyte cells that make and distribute melanin pigment in the skin.
This condition can be the source of stigma and shame, causing sufferers to cover up with makeup and clothes as they struggle with accepting the changes in their skin.
