The political climate is changing, a change described as tense. Some quarters will say this is normal in an election year… but what makes this particular build-up to the February 2024 election different is the fact that no definite candidacy in the ruling party.
Another political development in the new bill where candidates are submitted to the registry of the Constitutional Council at least sixty clear days and sixty-five clear days at the latest before the first round.
One hundred and twenty-three deputies voted for the adoption of this bill, two opposed and thirty-three abstained, allowing a majority vote.
The new texts stipulate that “the signatures of voters must represent at least 0.6% and at most 0.8% of the general electoral file”. Voters who sign sponsorships must also be domiciled in at least seven regions, with at least 2,000 per region.
Our guests will help us make sense of this new bill and its significance and a look at the drama ensuing in the ruling party and how this will affect the elections in February.
