The trend of democratic governance in West Africa is rapidly declining. That’s the finding of a report due to be published today by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) in collaboration with Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute and a group of Research Assistants from the region.
In a bid to consistently document the governance trends in the sub-region, OSIWA has developed a West Africa Authocratization Tracker to track regional and country-specific trends in democratic institutions and practices across all ECOWAS countries.
Mr. Mathias Hounkpe is OSIWA’s Program Manager for Political Governance and Democratic Consolidation. He tells WADR more about the report.
