Some good news for journalists with privately owned media houses in Togo, because for the first time, they will have access to health insurance.
The step taken by the syndicate of Independent Journalists of Togo is expected to improve the standard of living of press men and women, especially at this time of global health and economic turmoil.
The move has been welcomed by the journalists, many of whom are unable to afford quality healthcare on their salaries.
According to Isidore Kouwonou, secretary-general of the Syndicate of Independent Journalists of Togo, almost all journalists are not insured and are not registered with the national social security fund.
For the trade unionist, this also contributes to a more independent, free and comfortable press in the exercise of the profession.
Monthly contributions for this insurance ranges from 2,500 CFA francs to 4,000 CFA francs depending on the union.
