Togolese rapper and activist Aamron has been released after nearly a month in psychiatric detention at Zébé Hospital in Aného. His arrest on May 26 and subsequent confinement ignited protests and debates across the country, with many accusing authorities of using mental health institutions to silence dissent.

Known for his politically charged lyrics, Aamron’s case drew support from human rights groups and fellow artists who called for his immediate release and transparency in the legal process.

His release on June 21 comes amid growing scrutiny of Togo’s record on free expression. Civil society leaders are urging reforms to prevent future abuses.
